Accessing HULU and NETFLIX us from abroad

Both HULU and NETFLIX provides a huge amount of contents but they both block in some way users from accessing their catalog:

  • HULU uses geolocation technology to block viewers outside of the US.
  • NETFLIX uses geolocation technology to restrict/change its catalog

The target of this guide is to provide instructions to enable you to look at the entire NETFLIX and HULU catalogs and stream them to your Chromecast even if you are outside of the US.

  1. A smart DNS or a VPN. I used Unblock-US, but any smart DNS should work
  2. A router that allows you to specify custom routes (almost any router)

The first thing you have to do before we can start with the next steps is getting an account on you preferred smart DNS provider and configure the router as documented on their site.

Hulu geoblocking is very strict. Even to register, it will require an US credit card or an US PayPal account. If you have, you can skip the next step.

You can getting a HULU by registering and buying one at the MyGiftCard Supply. You should receive the giftcode in few seconds by email.

You can register a new HULU account in 2 different ways:

  • using a credit card or PayPal
If you have a valid US credit card or an US PayPal account, the registration is straighforward: point your browser the HULU website and click on sign up (or START YOUR FREE TRIAL).
  • Using a giftcode
If you don't have a valid US credit card or PayPal account (or if you don't want to use them), you can still subscribe to HULU by pointing your browser to the redeem giftcode page.

Now that you have an account on HULU you can access its whole catalog from any of your devices connected to your router.

Accessing Netflix is much easier. As soon as you have the Smart DNS configured, you have everything you need.
